Wastewater Treatment

Wastewater Treatment Simple Enough to Brief, Technical Enough to Trust

Sewage treatment plants for buildings, effluent treatment plants for factories, and recycling systems that turn wastewater into a reusable resource — engineered by Neptune for compliance and long-term reliability.

The problem

Compliance is rising faster than most plants are ready for

Government programmes like Jal Jeevan Mission and AMRUT 2.0, alongside CPCB and state pollution control board norms, are steadily pushing wastewater compliance up the priority list for buildings and industry alike. Plants sized without this in mind fall behind fast.

Non-compliant discharge

Untreated or under-treated wastewater risks penalties and disrupted occupancy or operating certificates.

Wasted reuse potential

Treated water that could offset flushing, gardening or process demand instead goes straight to drain.

Industry-specific effluent

Generic STP-style systems can't handle the chemical load in many industrial effluent streams.

STP vs ETP — what's the actual difference?

An STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) treats domestic wastewater — sewage from toilets, kitchens and washing — for safe discharge or reuse in flushing and gardening. An ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) treats industrial effluent carrying process-specific chemicals or pollutants, engineered to meet the discharge norms for that specific industry. Most buildings need an STP; most factories need an ETP, and some sites need both.

Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)

Domestic wastewater, treated for reuse

STP systems treat sewage from residential and commercial buildings through biological and physical stages, producing output suitable for discharge or on-site reuse.

  • Sized to occupancy & peak sewage flow
  • Compact designs for space-constrained sites
  • Treated output reusable for flushing & gardening

Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP)

Industrial effluent, treated to your norms

ETP systems are engineered around the specific chemical and physical characteristics of your industrial effluent stream, not a generic sewage-treatment template.

  • Treatment stages matched to effluent characteristics
  • Designed toward applicable CPCB/state discharge norms
  • Sludge & residual handling built into design

Water Recycling

Turn treated wastewater into a resource

Recycling systems polish STP or ETP output further, enabling reuse for flushing, gardening, cooling-tower make-up or select process applications — cutting fresh water demand and disposal cost.

  • Tertiary filtration & polishing stages
  • Reduces fresh water intake for non-potable uses
  • Supports green-building & water-positive goals

Industrial Wastewater

Process-specific wastewater, engineered end to end

For manufacturing and process industries, Neptune works from your effluent's actual chemical load and volume to design treatment that supports compliance and, where feasible, water reuse.

  • Sized from actual effluent volume & composition
  • Datasheets ready for consultant/regulator sign-off
  • AMC support for ongoing compliance operation

FAQs

Wastewater treatment — common questions

What is the difference between STP and ETP?+
A sewage treatment plant (STP) treats domestic wastewater — from toilets, kitchens and washing — so it can be safely discharged or reused for flushing and gardening. An effluent treatment plant (ETP) treats industrial wastewater carrying process-specific chemicals or pollutants, sized to meet the discharge norms for that industry.
Is STP mandatory for my building?+
Many municipalities and pollution control boards require an STP for buildings above a certain size or occupancy, and government programmes such as AMRUT 2.0 and Jal Jeevan Mission are pushing this requirement further. Requirements vary by state and project type, so we recommend confirming applicability with your local authority alongside your Neptune engineer.
Can treated wastewater be reused?+
Yes. STP output is commonly reused for flushing, gardening and cooling-tower make-up, and ETP output can often be recycled back into industrial processes after appropriate polishing — reducing fresh water dependence and disposal cost.
Do you handle industrial effluent compliance requirements?+
Yes. Neptune designs ETP systems sized to your effluent characteristics and the discharge norms applicable to your industry and location. We recommend verifying current CPCB and state pollution control board norms with your compliance team alongside our engineering input.
